Most of you know that after nearly 15 years away from the Mid-Missouri area my husband and I decided to pull the trigger on a move back home. But, in reality, we didn't end up exactly where we started... but close. We're Jefferson City (and Holts Summit) natives but when moving back to MO we had no doubt we'd end up in Columbia. Okay, well maybe there was a push by me to end up back next door to my BFF but other than her, we knew Columbia had everything we wanted and more.
For us, Columbia was more than a list of amenities it was really just a vibe. The heart of this community is family, small business, big business, energy, education and excitement! Here we know things aren't perfect anywhere but our town is on fire for the future, we're positive and hard working and connected and it's something really special. But don't just listen to me gush about it. I reached out to Natalie, part of the Wier at Home Team and broker-owner of Central Missouri Real Estate (also happens to be one of my wonderful neighbors turned client turned friend) to tell me in her expert opinion why Columbia is so special.
I've had the pleasure to photograph Natalie and Aaron quite a number of times over this past year for simple headshots plus full branding images across various locations to show off her own home, the beautiful Hemme model home and even her favorite season (fall) with her beautiful family.

Make the move to #CoMo
by Natalie Wier:
Columbia, Missouri, offers a lot of appeal for potential homeowners. Here are some reasons why you might want to consider buying a home here:
1. Affordable Cost of Living
Columbia is known for having a relatively low cost of living compared to other cities, especially for a college town. Housing prices are typically more affordable than larger metropolitan areas, making it a great place to buy your first home or settle down.
2. Strong Job Market
Columbia is home to the University of Missouri, which is the largest employer in the city. The university not only brings educational and cultural opportunities but also creates a stable job market. In addition to that, healthcare and government sectors provide plenty of employment options.
3. Education
With the University of Missouri, Columbia is a vibrant college town, making education a key focus. The public schools in Columbia are highly regarded, and the presence of Mizzou offers a wealth of educational and cultural resources for residents, including research opportunities, sporting events, and more.
4. Access to Outdoor Activities
Columbia is surrounded by nature, with plenty of parks, trails, and lakes nearby. Whether you're into hiking, biking, or just relaxing in a green space, there's no shortage of outdoor options. The city is also close to the Ozarks, providing opportunities for weekend trips and nature exploration.
5. Great Community and Quality of Life
Columbia has a strong sense of community, with plenty of events, festivals, and local organizations to get involved in. It's a friendly and welcoming town that offers a good quality of life, with a mix of urban and small-town vibes.
6. A Thriving Cultural Scene
With the university's presence, Columbia has a diverse cultural scene, from art galleries and theaters to music festivals and food events. There's always something happening, and the local arts and food scenes are vibrant, giving homeowners access to an active and engaging lifestyle.
7. Central Location
Columbia’s location in central Missouri makes it easy to get to other major cities like St. Louis or Kansas City. You’re not far from the action, but you still enjoy the peace and slower pace of a smaller city. It’s an ideal location for those who want easy access to big city amenities without the hustle and bustle.
8. Stable Real Estate Market
Columbia’s real estate market is known for being relatively stable and resilient. The demand for homes is steady, particularly due to the university population and families seeking a safe, well-rounded community. While prices may not skyrocket as they would in a larger market, they also tend to hold steady, offering long-term security.
9. Health & Wellness Focus
With its emphasis on outdoor activities, access to quality healthcare (like MU Health Care), and an active lifestyle, Columbia supports a healthy way of life. Whether it’s through fitness centers, yoga studios, or community health programs, the city promotes wellness at all stages of life.
10. A Mix of Urban and Rural
Columbia offers a great balance of urban conveniences—restaurants, shops, entertainment—while still maintaining a more relaxed, rural environment. If you're looking for a place that gives you the best of both worlds, Columbia can provide that.
So, whether you're drawn to the affordability, the educational opportunities, the cultural vibe, or the outdoor lifestyle, Columbia is definitely a city worth considering for your next home!
